Why can't I save changes to my public profile or personal settings?

  Hi-This is complicated, but here it goes: My username under the My Public Profile section in WordPress is displayed as “librarylists.” I would like to change this. When I click on “change” I am brought to Account Details which lists my username as “varellano.” Why do I have two different usernames? I would like to keep “varellano” as my username and delete library lists.

  My second problem is that I cannot change any information that is displayed in the My Public Profile Section. I enter changes, hit “Update Profile” and although I get a message saying the information has been changed, the information appears exactly the same. I am using Firefox as my browser, and yes, I have tried clearing the cache/deleting cookies/restarting browser after trying to make changes. Nothing changes.

  I also have a Gravatar account that is somehow linked to “librarylists” which I don’t want either.

  I have been struggling with this for a while and could really use some assistance.

  You can change this by changing the ‘Display name publicly as’ bit in your My Profile page. There is a drop down menu – just select the name you want from the list.

  The profile section should be letting you make changes – could you try updating your profile with another browser just to rule out the possibility that Firefox is being naughty?

  If you no longer want your librarylists Gravatar account, you can go to the Gravatar site, remove all the images you have for the account, and hide your profile.

  Thanks for your reply, but I tried doing exactly what you listed in both Firefox and Safari and in neither situation did the changes take effect.

  Also, could you explain the username inconsistency I’m experiencing?

  The problem appears to be that you have two separate accounts, varellano and librarylists.

  We use Gravatar for profile information, so it sounds like you logged into WordPress.com as varellano and Gravatar as librarylists.

  If you log out of both Gravatar and WordPress.com, then log into WordPress.com again as varellano, that should clear up the issue.

  Thanks for your reply, macmanx. Unfortunately logging out of both Gravatar and WordPress, then logging into WordPress again as varellano did not solve the issue. To make matters even more complicated, my display name is showing up as “Freelance librarian” although on WordPress and Gravatar it is shown as “librarylists.” Again, the username I can login to WordPress with is varellano, but what is shown when I login is “librarylists.” Sounds like a mess, huh?

  Check Users -> Personal Settings in your blog’s Dashboard, your display name is still set to “freelancelibrarian.”

  Can you please try clearing your browser’s cookies and cache?

  Cleared cookies and cache. Logged out of wordpress and gravatar. Logged back in to WordPress. Tried to save changes in My Profile. Cleared cookies and cache again. Logged back in. Still same results. display name: librarylists. username: librarylists. username under personal settings: varellano . Display name when I post and comment: freelance librarian.

  So confused.
