I see an Admin bar and can connect to the blog easily. In order to help you we need to know your specific computing environment details. Please work through what follows and report back.

Hi and thanks for all of your information. I went through the list and did those that I could and some of which had already been done. I went to the log in page and when I did that the admin bar appeared but did not when I subsequently used my bookmark. So I logged on thru WordPress.com and then bookmarked the page. So far so good! Although I did experience a 404 error message one more time when trying to preview a post.
Thank you

Hi again
I spoke too soon. I still have problems getting the admin bar to appear except that now it does and then it doesn’t. If I go into WordPress and log in most likely I will have the bar. BUT I still can’t preview a post without getting the 404 Error message file not found. I googled the problem but was afraid to try anything unless it came from Apple since I have a MAC.
Thanks

Hi, I am subscribed to the topic. I am using a MacBook Pro and my browser is Safari. I did go to Users and checked HTTPS. I have cleared the cache. I did NOT have these two issues until recently. I don’t know what’s changed? My Adobe is up to date as in the browser version. Right now it’s so annoying because I can’t get into my blog as myself to see the Admin Bar (only sometimes) and I can’t preview a post and sometimes can only publish it if I save Draft and come back to it later.

my browser is Safari
Exactly which version is it please? Check here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/

Your ISP wouldn’t be TalkTalk, would it? Many of their customers are reporting they are blocking parts of WordPress.com again.
-
Out of curiosity, to determine whether it’s a browser issue or perhaps with your ISP, could you attempt to log in and use your site with either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome, and let me know if either work, or if it’s exhibiting the same issues that you’re seeing in Safari?
-
I logged on thru Firefox using http://pbenjay.wordpress.com and did not get Admin bar. I went to http://wordpress.com and the LOG IN page came on. I logged on and the page that appeared was not my home page but rather like (but not) a stat or dashboard page with my avatar and name in upper right corner. I clicked on that and drop down list had Pbenjay’s Blog-I clicked on that and the home page with admin bar came up. I can SOMETIMES use that method in Safari to get there too but not always. It seems if I can get the bar-as long as I don’t shut down computer I can most of the time go back to my blog and admin bar there. AGAIN this is a recent issue, have had the blog for 4 years!

Do you know about what date this started occurring? I’ll check and see if there were any related changes to our codebase or systems.
-
I wish I could pinpoint it but I guess three weeks or bit more. The 404 Error message when I try to preview used to happen once in a while but now it’s every day – I am publishing without preview.
-
Can you make a dummy draft and post a link to the preview url, so that I can take a look and see if I get the same 404 error?
-
Hi, I’m not quite sure I understand what it is I am supposed to do. I’m going to write a dummy draft and then try to preview it? And when the preview page comes up with the 404 error message I should copy the url and send it to you? I hope that’s what I think you are saying.
Lori -
I hope this is the link you are looking for. http://pbenjay.wordpress.com/?p=18808&preview=true
I’m also copying the Error message into this email. see belowOoops…Where did you get such a link ?

Okay, a couple things to try:
If this URL is still giving the error —
http://pbenjay.wordpress.com/?p=18808&preview=true
Will this one perhaps work?
https://pbenjay.wordpress.com/?p=18808&preview=true
If you’re getting a https version of the url in the admin, which does recognize your login, my concern is that for some reason it may not be persisting to a non-https version of the page on the front-end.
Do you have any sort of proxy or the like set up for your internet connection? It seems like something is preventing some authentication cookies from being set. As we’ve already determined that it’s not your browser — since Firefox has the same problem as Safari — it could be either something on your computer itself, or something on the pipe that connects you to WordPress.com.
* If you try to connect from a different location — a coffee shop, library, or the like — do you get the same problem?
* If you’re on a laptop currently, will that same computer have the same problem at a different location?
* Do you have another computer at home that you can try to connect through, via your normal internet connection? -
Hi, I tried clicking on your suggested link-still no preview with 404 Error. I looked at the address bar and the link you suggested was in it with the https:// in a gray box with the padlock icon.
I will be taking the laptop to NJ on Thursday and will try and post from there. Tonight I went to the plain WordPress Login page (the one with big sign in box in middle) and what came up after I signed in was the full admin page with dashboard, etc. AND I forgot to mention that when I get to that page I have to ask SHOW ME my detailed stats, – they no longer appear as they used to. As far as the rest of your message regarding a proxy, authentication cookies – you are now getting into areas that I don’t understand. I plan to try using my iPad as you suggest and will report back. Thanks Lori -
To continue-I just went to that full admin page and at the top are the graph lines indicating stats – NO stats appear on the page like they used to, not to mention again that the graph is gone too. So I clicked on my blog icon in the upper left corner thinking that when the home page came up the stat graph would appear on the admin bar. It did NOT. My blog title and a blue question mark was there where the stat graph should be. I could click on my title and get drop down menu where I could click on NEW POST.

Hi Here is my BIZARRE update. I used my iPad in another room to get to blog and it came up with admin bar showing. Then I went to dashboard to see if I could preview the dummy draft and I could! So then I went back to my MAC just now and clicked on my bookmark and the blog came up with admin bar. Then I went to dashboard and clicked on the dummy draft to preview and it came up perfectly. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHAT CHANGED. To further test I went to another page I think I closed it and went to ebay and then clicked on the blog bookmark and again it came up correctly. My only concern is that since we didn’t do something specific to correct the problem I’m sure it’s going to come back :(
