Why can’t I see my post in any category?
-
Ok….so I just wrote a post a few minutes ago…and normally I can find it under the categories of family, kids, children, parenting…etc. But I can’t find it. Anyone know why? (I’m fairly new to blogging)
Thanks,
ExtraordinaryMommy -
I can’t see the categories on each post, just in the sidebar. Are you talking about seeing them on your local category pages (ie within your own blog) or the global category pages, for all of WordPress?
Normally, you get left off the global pages if your blog is set to Mature, but some people have reported getting booted off tag pages mistakenly recently. There seemed to be a bug.
If you’re doing something to suppress the display of global categories on each blog post, WP.com might (speculative) drop you from the global categories. But I’m not sure.

Maybe give us an example of a specific post which doesn’t show up on a page, with the urls for both the post and the category page you expect to see it on. We can go from there.

I’m having the same issue with my blog not appearing. I’ve posted twice now and it will not show – here’s my post title “Is De-conversion Possible?”
Thanks, Michelle.

No, I need the actual URL, including the http part. Give me that and I’ll see what I can find out.

Thanks for trying to help. It is on the ‘global pages’ that I can’t see my post. I’m mainly confused b/c I’ve seen the posts there before.
I don’t know how to set the blog to mature :) I’m sorry (this is the newbie in me talking) I don’t know what it means to ‘supress the display of global categories’ :)

Thanks for your help!

I wish my categories were like that. I know my categories used to stay on my site and only show my posts but I tried that convert categories to tags feature and from then on all of my category links go to the global tag site. I contacted support and they told me both tags and categories do that now. Obviously not on extraordinarymommy’s site.

If you click on a tag or category in the post metadata, it takes you to the global tags pages. If you click on a tag or category in your widgets it keeps you local (on your blog) and displays just your posts in the particular category or tag.

I don’t quite know what you mean…again, I’m new at this…so, I don’t understand what you mean about the global tag site vs. categories.
I type my post, add tags at the bottom and click on a few categories. Once I post, the posts were showing up on the main site (typically under a family, parents, kids, etc. category)

@extraordinarymommy
I was responding to jamesqpublic, sorry for the confusion. One thing to keep in mind is that the number of tags and categories combined shouldn’t be over 12 or you can get excluded from the global tag/category pages. Staff mentioned this, but right now I can’t find the thread where they mentioned it.
One other bug that has been around for a while is if you set posts to show up in the future, for some reason they don’t show up on the global pages. If after the post hits your blog, you open it for edit and then click “save” it then triggers something in the bowels of wordpress and you show up on the global pages.

I am also having a problem with categories not showing up………again. I thought they had fixed this problem a couple of days ago but my posts are not showing up in categories now.
Does anyone have any info on this? -
Does any of what I said in the post right above yours apply – in particular the total number of tags and categories assigned to the posts?
-
extraordinarymommy, usually the tags show up right on each individual post. I honestly don’t see them on any of your posts, although I know they must be there because the category widget brings up posts. Have they ever been visible on your posts? The whole “deliberate suppression” thing is something some people do on purpose to make the category links invisible on each post, so people never leave their blog and go to the global pages. You’re using Fadtastic, and I have no experience with that.
Testing it out, I see it doesn’t display tags or categories. Weird. That’s going to make it popular!
But none of this solves your original problem. Have you tried going in and editing the post, as tsp suggests? There’s a known issue when people change the datestamp and set it to post later. It can’t hurt to try this and see if it works.
