Why can't I transfer my domain?

    I am trying to self-host my WordPress blog on Host Gator, and I am having some issues. I have gone through all of the steps for transferring a domain, as specified by wordpress.com and hostgator.com, but when I try to transfer, Host Gator is still showing my domain as being “Locked” even though I have unlocked it in the “Edit Domain” form of the Dashboard. I have done research into why this might have happened, and other people have noted that being to close to the renewal/expiration date of the domain can be an issue, but I renewed a couple of months ago, and I believe the domain doesn’t expire until November. I have also done all of the confirmation email code stuff that is required as well. Can someone give me some insight as to why I am not able to transfer it yet? Thanks in advance!!

    Hi there!

    It looks like your domain apearlkindofgirl.com expires on June 27, 2015. You can see this by visiting Store > My Upgrades in your dashboard.

    Have you tried visiting the Transfer Domain tab in your DNS settings and accepting the transfer?

    I don’t see anything on our end that would be preventing the transfer from going through. Let me know if accepting the transfer doesn’t work and I’ll look into it.

    Yes, I have accepted the transfer, but it is still showing as “Locked” on HostGator. I sent in a ticket to Host Gator, and they said the following:

    The domain name ‘apearlkindofgirl.com’ is pointing to nameservers:
    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM

    If you wish to host your domain name to hostgator then please contact your current registrar and ask them to update the name servers to host gator. Once the update is completed please get back to us so that we can initiate the transfer process.

    Hi there,

    Can you please check with HostGator to find out what HostGator name servers your domain should be using? They also have a support page with more information about finding your name servers here:

    http://support.hostgator.com/articles/what-are-my-name-servers

    Once you have those name servers, let us know and we can help you update them for you. Alternately, you can update them yourself with this guide: Change Name Servers
