Why can't I update my name servers on my renewed domain?
-
I just tried to renew a domain which expired – WordPress seemed to allow me to do so, and I was able to pay for the domain (richardtobrien.com) on PayPal, and then it asked me to ‘map the domain’, but when I tried, I couldn’t change my name servers – it won’t let me get rid of the ones that are already there. Have I done something wrong, or has the domain just gone off the market, and if so is it possible to have my fee (£9) refunded?

Hi Richard,
It looks like the domain richardtobrien.com expired on 6/17/14. For a short time, it was possible to renew it at WordPress.com. However, since the domain was not renewed in time, it was returned to the registrar who sold it to someone else. The payment you made at WordPress.com was for the domain mapping renewal, which requires that you have purchased the domain elsewhere.
I went ahead and refunded your recent purchase and removed the upgrade from your account to prevent confusion. It looks like richardtobrien.co is available. Would that work?

Hi Jeremy, thanks for sorting that out – I suspected that was the case. I was hoping to try a .co.uk name, but I don’t think you offer those?

We don’t offer .co.uk domains just yet – only those listed here:
You would need to register the domain elsewhere and map it to WordPress.com following the steps here:
