WHy can't I upload a jpg for my header image?

I had uploaded a jpg for my header image and it worked fine. Then I tried to delete it and add a new one and it won’t accept the image for some reason. It just spins and spins when I try to upload and the page won’t load. Or else the next pay where I ought to be able to crop the image is just a completely blank page with nothing on it. And when I load my home page ithe image is not there.

About how big is the image?
Also, can you upload it via Media -> Add New in your blog’s Dashboard?
