why can't I use DNS at my own registrar?

Maybe I don’t want to use wordpress.com’s NS? Why can’t I just use A records? I would rather just make the simple change instead of having to carry everything over (yes I know I can add A, CNam, etc but why do that when its already set?).

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
