Why can't I use my old blog name?
-
I had a blog at http://cessationofstupidity.wordpress.com a while back, and I’d like to start it up again. I deleted the blog a couple years ago, but when I type in the name “cessationofstupidity” as the web site name, to add a new site, it says it already exists. Can you help?

No we can’t “help”. You had to ignore multple warnings that site deletion was permanent and irreversible to delete the URL. I am sorry but you cannot claim a deleted blog URL. No one can use a deleted blog URL regardless of who registered it. Deleted blog URLs are not recycled here and you can confirm by reading:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/However, you can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

Well, it’s been quite some time (years) since I ignored those warnings and deleted my URL, so I didn’t remember. Thanks for the links and suggestions.
