Why can't new subscribers conform their subscription?

  When a new subscriber clicks ‘follow this blog’, they are sent an automated email that says ‘Your subscription cannot be activated. It may have expired’ – why is this happening?

  We can’t invite people to subscribe until this is fixed. Please help.

  That is very strange. Does the email say that, or do they see the error after clicking the link?

  Also, are they able to Follow themselves via the widget at the bottom of the blog?
