Why can't some posters have gravatars in their comments?

  It shows up blank or shows a link.

  From the posts that I saw that didn’t have the profile pictures in the comments, the commenters didn’t have Gravatars set up. They can specify one either in their public profile page here at WordPress.com or by logging into http://gravatar.com.
