Why Chrome randomly asks to save mp3 file instead of playing it in browser
-
When I click on a link to one of my audio files in WordPress, for example: http://technotriggers.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/e-flat-natural-minor-ae-12.mp3 it should automatically play in my browser on a streaming media player of some kind.
It generally does this consistently in Internet Explorer and in Firefox and until recently seemed to be doing so in Chrome.
However, Chrome, lately for some reason has been automatically saving / downloading the mp3 file onto my computer rather than immediately streaming it in the browser. When this happens, the browser screen remains blank and the tab says ‘untitled’ as it instead downloads to a folder on my PC.
Weirder still – it doesn’t do this all the time and with all audio files (I have 107 on my blog). It only does it intermittently (but more frequently than not).
It’s incredibly annoying as I don’t want to re-download these files – I already HAVE them on my computer! I simply want to stream those excerpts from my wordpress blog (and allow others who access it to do so).
Help on this ASAP would be greatly appreciated.

That is very odd. Chrome on my Mac plays that link just fine.
After some research, it appears to be a Chrome issue. But there doesn’t seem to be a lot of good info about “why” it is happening or what to do about it. I did find one website claiming that this was the issue:
Chrome won’t play mp3s over 2:00 unless they have the artist’s name encoded with them.
However, that seems a little odd to me.
