Why .com Blog Still Alive After Transferred to .org?
-
Two years ago, I transferred my wordpress.com website over to a self-hosted .org platform. Yet my wordpress.com is still alive and even shows up in Google searches.
There are no new posts, mind you, but the feed is alive with my most recent posts on my .org site.
Having both sites looks unprofessional, confusing, and just down-right messy!

http://christinabaglivitinglof.comI’d like to get rid of the wordpress.com website for good but keep my account open so I can track wordpress.org stats. Is that possible? I’ve been on my wordpress.com account and and can’t figure out how to fix this! I have contacted wordpress.org and a moderator suggested I contact wordpress.com for a fix.
Any help would be appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
If you want to permanently delete your site, follow the guide below:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/delete-site/
Please read the warnings and advice before deleting a site, as we can’t revert a site deletion for any reason.
If you want to hide your site instead, you can use the following guide to make your site private so only you and other members of the site can view it when logged in:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
Let me know if you have any questions with this!

Thanks for the response but I have one more question: If I hide the site, will it continue to show up in search results?
-
I just checked and my
- wordpress.com blog is hidden.
Yet it continues to pop up in search engines!
My websites have the same name; the only difference is that one is wordpress.com. If I delete that, will it affect my other site??
This is frustrating as I thought once I transferred from wordpress.com to wordpress.org, the former would “disappear.”

http://christinabaglivitinglof.comDo you know why this is happening?

Hi Christina,
Please note that WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate entities, so starting a WordPress.org site doesn’t automatically cancel a .com site. You would have to cancel it yourself.
After looking at your WordPress.com site: http://christinabaglivitinglof.wordpress.com/ I found that it was not hidden or private. You can set it to private by going to Settings > Reading in your Dashboard. Right now it is set to Allow search engines to index this site. Instead set it to: I would like my site to be private, visible only to users I choose.
You can find those settings next to Site Visibility. Please make sure to click on Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
Cheers!

Thank you, Grace. I hadn’t done it correctly before. I had only made it “hidden” under the “my blogs.” I didn’t change it in “settings.” Hopefully I’ve fixed the issue.
Again, thanks for your patience with me!
