Why did a reader's comment get emailed out to ALL of my followers, like a post?

A follower posted a comment on my blog this morning (one of many), and when I approved it from my iPhone, it got mailed out to all my followers. AAGH!!! I’m afraid to approve another comment, even from my laptop, for fear that it will also be mass-emailed. I don’t want to alienate my audience. HELP PLEASE!! My blog is andieduncan.wordpress.com

Hi Andie – I checked your feed to be sure and there are no comments in it. Are you quite certain these followers had not elected to follow comments on that post? They can subscribe to individual posts if they want, to get comments by email.
And finally, did you approve the comment from your email, or from the WordPress.com app? Have you set up a Post By Email address for your blog, that allows you to post directly from your email?

I’m not sure I explained this clearly. I wasn’t trying to post anything! I just approved a comment a reader posted on one of my stories, and when I hit “Approve” from the WordPress app on my iPhone, my husband (and I) both got emails saying “New Comment on Mum’s The Word”, which I presume ALL of my followers also got.
I’m not sure what you means about “there are no comments in your feed”, as I have 2 comments pending that I haven’t approved yet.
As for setting up the post by email address, I was only trying to approve someone else’s comment, not post a story.
Does that make my question more clear? Thx!

Hi Andie – I understood this, I was just asking some questions to try and narrow down what might have happened. For the feed, I meant your Reader feed that goes out to subscribers.
You would have gotten a comment notification to the email address that’s listed here (the admin email on the blog): https://andieduncan.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-general.php
I assume that is your email address – what is your husband’s? I’ll check to see why he might have gotten it. :)

His is (email visible only to moderators and staff), and I think he’s also signed up at (email visible only to moderators and staff). I got an email notification too (not sure if anyone else did, but would it help you to know?)
