why did akismet mark the comments as spam even if i haven't read them yet?

    why did akismet mark comments as spam if I haven’t approved them?
    akismet comments marked as spam but I never read the comments. I logged onto my dashboard and I noticed that it said there were 15 comments akismet had marked as spam. but I never read the 15. I only assumed I had 6 comments left on my blog. so I wanted to see if there was anyway of retrieving of finding the comments. I tried going through the comments->spam and such but nothing worked. please and thank you
