Why did I receive partial refund when cancelling the Personal Plan?
-
Hello, on 06.07.2023 I ordered a Personal Subscription Plan for which I paid 42.84 Euro. On 09.07.2023. I cancelled the subscription (within 48 hours of purchase) but I only got a partial refund of 20.23 Euro. I do not understand this. How can this problem be fixed? I contacted the billing support but I have not heard back from them.

Here I am attaching the screenshots of order and refund (merged in one image, vertically).

Hi –
The difference in your purchase and refunded amount is the domain registration. You’re correct that the refund window for that is 48 hours but it looks like that was exceeded when checking the logs on the account.
Purchased: 2023-07-06 20:58:18
Cancelled: 2023-07-09 17:12:04I’m happy to add the domain back to your account so you can maintain ownership of it. You’re free to use it here again in the future, or you can point it to another hosting provider. Let us know how you’d like to proceed.

Actually, all 42.84 Euros have been charged only for the Personal Plan and none for the domain because the domain was free for the first year. You can see this on the screenshot which I have posted above but I am going to attach the invoice which I got by email which I will attach in this reply. I was wrong about the 48 hours refund window for the domains, the refund window is 96 hours . See this link: https://wordpress.com/support/refunds/#domains. If you calculate the duration between the time points according to the logs on the account which you have written it is 68.2 hours which is less than 96 hours anyway. Please verify my purchase again and you will see that I have only been charged for the Personal Plan and have cancelled within 68.2 hours anyway. Also, I do not want to keep the domain.

Hi there!
Just to clarify, you get a free domain for the first year with a yearly plan, but if you cancel after 96 hours, the domain registration fee is not refunded. The domain is only free if you keep the plan for the year.
Having said that, I dug into it further and found that you canceled within the 96-hour refund period for the domain. So, we’ve refunded the remaining amount. You can see the full refund in this and this refund receipt.
Hope that helps!

You’re welcome! We’d love your feedback about why you canceled the plan, though. Is there anything we could have done better? If you still need a website, we’d love to hear about your site requirements.

The reason why I decided to cancel was because I did not find enough flexibility even with the Premium Plan. Limited theme customization and the inability to install Plugins like Elementor were the main problems. I know these options are available with Business Plan but that is outside my budget right now.
