Why did images marked "size-medium" in CSS class suddenly began displaying at fu

Suddenly today, all images (I’ve only noticed this in the posts on my front page, but presume that the whole site is affected) marked “medium-size” began displaying not at medium size but at full size!

A couple of years ago, maybe three, I frequently had a problem with images suddenly displaying at full size often weeks or months after I’d embedded them at the size I wanted in WordPress posts or pages. This issue was resolved a long time ago. However, more recently, after WP made some modifications in the process of uploading of images, the issue resurfaced.

One of the changes was that all or uploaded images have a preset size by default. The size can, I think, be modified before embedding or inserting the image into a post or page, but because this hadn’t been necessary previously I still have the old habit of neglect to modify the size until the image is inserted in the post or page. Another reason for doing so is that the preset sizes rarely include the precise size I want. I nearly always adjust the sizes of images by dragging their corners after inserting them. This (corner dragging) is a particularly important tool for me when pairing images side by side.

Until today I believe the only setting that was causing undesired size displays was the “full-size” setting. No matter what size I entered into the width and height boxes at Advanced Settings>Size, if the CSS class line included “full-size” the image would display at full size. I didn’t find the same to be true with regard to the “medium-size” setting.

    I repeat:
Suddenly today, all images (I’ve only noticed this in the posts on my front page, but presume that the whole site is affected) marked “medium-size” began displaying not at medium size but at full size!
