Why did my attempt to create a second administrator for a WP blog fail?

I’m trying to get the site jcash1.wordpress.com from another WP account of mine (Shadowshift) into my primary account as well. The invite from Shadowshift was sent to Musicdoc1 and I received it. But the acceptance failed. When I clicked the acceptance button I was taken to the “Blogs I follow” page. Why? There I was told

Your subscription could not be activated, it may have expired

I wasn’t even attempting to subscribe. I just want Musicdoc1 to be an administrator of the blog jcash1.wordpress.com. Why has WordPress.com made this so difficult to accomplish?

This issue was resolved, mostly. I hadn’t changed the user setting from the default “follower” to “administrator.” But I still don’t know why the follower invite failed.

  • Sending it as a Follower is just inviting a subscriber, that’s why it followed that path.

The links do expire in time, but sometimes they may not work too. Re-sending usually fixes that.
