Why did my avatar from a digital photo turn out grey?
-
When I first uploaded an avatar for my account, the image was a grey square, & the cropper was not functional. At fist, I thought it may have had to do with the hour long wait period before appearing, but it was the same well beyond an hour. Then I upoloaded an avatar that was a scan, & it was visible & the cropper was working properly. The image even appeared immediately. I’m a little confused, & concerned this may have an effect on future attempts to upload certain image files to my profile & entries.

Have you had a look at the Image troubleshooting FAQ?
https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/troubleshooting-images/The problem you describe sounds to me like the first image you uploaded may not have been in the sRGB color profile. Can you give us a direct link to that file so someone can take a look?

I got a little ahead of myself & removed the file. It didn’t occur to me that you may need to see the file, until I had already removed it. I did not originally have a chance to have a look at the troubleshooting page, because I noticed the help forums first. I have since then, seen the troubleshooting page. I’m concerned it may have to do with file size or the color profile you mentioned. I have mostly images from digital photos, which I know can be large. Any others, are scans or downloads, & like I said, the new one is from a scan.

It didn’t occur to me that you may need to see the file,
It isn’t necessary, but would have been instructive. :)
https://dailypost.wordpress.com/2015/08/20/the-need-for-speed/ was just published a couple of days ago by The Daily Press and gives some good tips for resizing and optimizing images before you upload them. It’s also important to image clarity and to maximize the free 3GB of storage space you get with your site.

Thanks. I checked out the photo optimizing page after my second response. I just need to figure out which program to install.
