why did my images disappear?

I am a newbie, preparing my first post. I designed the header and left column in my blog, Streets of Israel, and put an image widget in each. These were there for two days, but now the images have disappeared. If I look at the screen in Safari, I see question marks where the pictures should be. In Firefox, I see just a blank, as if the pic didn’t exist. I did nothing to change the photos before they disappeared. I’m tempted to go back and do the widgets all over again, but I’m afraid I’ll screw things up further. Also, I want to know why they disappeared, since I’m afraid this will happen again.

In the code I see URLs like http://msoser.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/copy-cropped-img_47552.jpg
Can you try re-uploading the images after changing their file names so they have neither underscores nor hyphens? That’s all I can think of at the moment.

I did what you suggested, and it seems to be working. Thanks for giving me the courage to start all over again with my images and widgets. Happy new year.
