Why did my Livejournal import make multiple copies of my comments?

I recently imported 52 posts from Livejournal but the comments have been duplicated hundreds of times for no reason. I now have over 5000 comments registered in the blog even though each post only has a handful. They have been replicated over and over. How can I a) delete the 5000 that are there and b) re-import it correctly? Does it relate to which theme you choose?

I don’t see any reason for why that would have happened.
Did you only have imported content on your blog? If so, I can empty the whole thing so you can try again.

Hi, yes it was all imported so I’d be grateful if you can delete it all. Can I ask, is there a specific theme that’s well suited to this? I wonder if some can read LJ formatting better than others.

It won’t be theme specific, I believe there was just a glitch in the importer.

Hi. Unfortunately, the new import has replicated the error. The most recent post has 138 comments whereas in reality it only has 2. There are over 5000 comments downloaded. Is there anything you can suggest, as otherwise I will have to abandon this blog as with so many replications it’s unusable.

When you imported this time, were you using a fresh export file, or the same one as previously?

P.S. You can export LJ posts month by month as csv format but it doesn’t capture the comments at all, so that’s a waste of time really.

It looks like some duplicates made it in again. Please leave it as is while we take a few more swings at it with an iron rod.
