Why did you destroy the Stats Page?
-
azijune, maidiebike, kgollop, ingebretsens, auxclass, ingridcc, dandelionsalad, colourcottage: thanks for adding your comments and feedback.
As an example the summary pages now seem to be inaccessible.
Thanks for this specific note. It is a planned update to add back the all-time summary stats page.

I have filled out the survey multiple times telling them it sucks.
It also has some egregious UI bugs. The little info panels in each category, for example, if a stat is blank (say, you had no clicks) trying to get rid of the info panel with it’s “Helpful” hints on how to get something to appear, will actually close down the stat entirely.
For example, I click on a day I didn’t get any outbound clicks, the Clicks stat will have the info panel on it. Clicking the (i) to close the waste of space will actually turn the chevron over. Now click on a day that does have clicks. Oops, your stat is still closed. Click the chevron to see your data. oh, the info is back again, click the (i) to close it and just show your data. Okay, click on the clickless day again. Oh the panel is back again. And btw, clicking on hide all info panels will not hide them on blank stats either.

The info button is not collapsable if there is no data for the stat, so that’s why you have to click the arrow to get rid of it in those cases. I know that was an intentional design choice, but I’m not sure why. I think it was probably to try to get people as much info about the stats up front. I’ve added a note to our suggestion list to see if it’s something that can be changed in the future.
-
Yeah, it’s something that might be worth seeing once, but not every time (Especially if I’ve clicked Hide all info panels and it does nothing). For example, I don’t ever post videos in my site, so I will never have data for videos, and I don’t need the info panel ever. I suppose I could collapse that stat, but I would need to do that every new visit to the stats page.
From a User Interface design, having controls that don’t work consistently is a bad design, unless they visually indicate that they’re going to do something different.
I am guessing that a lot of thought was put into “What’s a user’s first time interaction with this page going to be like” and very little about “What’s it going to be like for a user who looks at this page daily for months on end.”

Perhaps. Maybe it’s something that was good as a temporary introduction—we do get questions about it! But maybe it can be changed after a bit. I like your ideas about the info buttons.
-
drmauser, I researched this and found it’s already a planned update, based on earlier feedback also, to decouple the info button from the open/close arrow—and that change should actually happen shortly.
-
drmauser, it’s poor design.
Just the fact that every time one goes to the New Stats page one must click a button to close the info box is not an efficient use of our time.
Eliminating the collapsible sidebar which is on the “old-old” Stats Page available through the “classic dashboard” is not an upgrade. Also, eliminating the customizable modules which we can move around and close completely on both the older Stats pages is not an improvement.
Eliminating the Date and Time (located at the very top of both the older versions of the Stats pages) so we can compare our Stats within a 24 hour time period is one of the most bothersome parts of the New Stats page. It makes it unusable without the time.
-
dandelionsalad, adding the timestamp back is a planned update based on your earlier feedback. Thanks for posting about it earlier, and please know that many changes will be happening but will take time to come through. The new stats page will continue to get updated and improved, and feedback is an important part of that process that is being taken into account.
-
Thanks for passing that on, designsimply. The time of day stamp at the top of the page makes the Stats Page useful. Good to know that the “designers” are going to add it back in.
This is the first time I’ve heard that although maybe you mentioned it on another thread.
-
I just found out about it myself. I forwarded a lot of feedback though :) and it will take a little time for things to get sorted out after such a big update and after so much feedback was posted. I’m staying with it though!
-
Designsimply WHAT upgrade? NOTHING is better. The old stats page was fine. They should have taught you people, Don’t fix what isn’t broken!! You want specifics? Okay why is nearly half the stats page taken up with a dashboard-like bar? I already have a drop down for that! WHY is the map not instantly visible below the stats bar, do you know HOW useful that is for being actual statistics!! Now put the old page back and spend your programming time and dollars on actual improvements, the boopboop Edit page was a disaster too, what ARE you people doing and is there anyone there with a degree higher than tech school? From your pic and what you describe as an “upgrade”, I don’t think so!
-
i really hope you’ll return the old stats page. the new stats page is not as easily informative as the old one. You have to do a lot of scrolling in the new stats page to get info that the old stats page presents in one view. thank you.
-
It is really unbelievable, all the feedback is negative and still they forge ahead. They’ve made other changes as well that just make it harder to use and navigate. They call it an upgrade but it isn’t, in any case given the utter stupidity of their computerpeople with their idiotic GUI changes I don’t think I will be upgrading my WP membership anytime soon. If it is true that the old stats page will no longer be available, I might even leave WP altogether, I hate computer people who think changing the GUI is doing their job.
-
I really hate the new stats page.
For more than one month now, I knew you were up to something: You changed the stats page but left us the option for the old page. I answered your poll about “why do you prefer the old stats page” more than 30 times, checking all the boxes, received your thanks, but ultimately I don’t think our opinion counts.
You wrote previously that we can find the old stats in our dashboard > Site stats, but it’s not the same at all! Where are the maps?
Please give us the old stats back. -
Another thread on the “new” Stats page: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/stats-classics-how-to-set?replies=59
The only place I have found where there is a link to the “old” Stats page with the map other than at the very bottom of the “new” Stats page is on the classic Dashboard in the Stats module, “View All”.
I suggest bookmarking the link for easier access. https://wordpress.com/my-stats/
-
If you go to the old dashboard (My Sites/WP Admin), you can access the old stats page by clicking “View All” in the stats module.
@dandelionsalad’s suggestion is probably the easiest.
We got the edit command in the My Sites menu back after many threads and complaints appeared, but they’ve already announced that this will change at some point in the future. We’re not likely to see significant changes to the new UI for reasons we elaborate on in the other thread (primarily, Matt Mullenweg’s focus on mobile operating systems and interfaces).
A number of us have already left or plan to do so in the future. That might be the best option, for some of you. I’m moving to a self-hosted account, and though I don’t relish the added expense, I look forward to having more control over my site—and its user interface.
It shouldn’t have to come to this, but the new changes are intrusive and counter-intuitive.

pellymade, there are two separate older versions of the stats page, and this is the one that has the map on it: https://wordpress.com/my-stats/
-
Aha, I see that dandelionsalad also posted the same link earlier and I replied before I saw it. Sorry about that!
-
thank you dandelionsalad and designsimply. That’s a relief. I just hope wp will keep the link to the good old version!
