why did you muck up the "new post" function?
-
What happened to spelling/grammar check button on the “new post” template? It’s almost impossible to grammar check my work. Automatic link-in has gone south and the Tag function doesn’t work well at all (Previously, I’d type in three or four letters to find “tags”). Most of all it takes forever to load!
I’m no Luddite, but this is too much.

Hey Barbara!
We did update quite a few links to point to our new editor at http://wordpress.com/post. However, please keep in mind that the old editor is still available. You just need to access it by clicking “Edit” underneath a post here:
https://01varvara.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php
Spellcheck hasn’t been added to the new editor just yet, but you can still access it from the old editor. As for the tag function, you can select existing tags from the drop-down menu underneath the “Add a Tag” field. Is that working on your side?
Just a note, we’re collecting constructive feedback on a main thread here:

If you would like, could you add your main sticking points to that thread? We’ll do our best to address them all!

Sorry.
You REMOVED one of the most valuable “tag” items… I could type in two or three letters, and options would pop up. By removing that, you made it much harder and longer for me to tag an item that’s similar to an earlier one. Your new “tagging” feature sucks and is meant for grandmas who don’t post seriously and frequently. I often do over four posts a day and your new “tag” feature slows me down. Besides which, your new link to the new editor from the frontpage drop-down is SLOW (it often takes over five minutes)… I can access the old editor from the dashboard, but that’s inconvenient and slow. To speak bluntly, you designed a “new post” feature for casual posters… it’s too slow, inefficient, and clunky for real posters. Also, it’s harder to gauge how the actual post is going to look. Grouping all of the functions to the righthand side was goofy… whoever thought it up should be shot!
In short, this effort stank. I’ve run five blogs on WordPress since 11/07, and I’ve never seen such an incompetent effort. Posting on WordPress using the previous editor was a joy… your new one stinks to high heaven. As I said, it’s meant for schmidiots who post about Fluffy the Cat, not those of us who post things more serious.
You get NO POINTS for this latest “improvement”… sorry, Charlie.

Hey Barbara!
I want you to know that we really do appreciate your honesty. We have a long internal list of improvements we’re working on with the new editor. I promise we’re trying to address all concerns.
I often do over four posts a day and your new “tag” feature slows me down.
That’s a very solid point. I can see how having to scroll through hundreds of tags would be cumbersome. I’ve added the issue to our internal list. Perhaps we can look at either making previous tags searchable or adding a function where “M” jumps you down to the start of the tags that start with “M” making the feature a bit less painful.
Your new link to the new editor from the frontpage drop-down is SLOW (it often takes over five minutes)
It certainly shouldn’t take that long at all. Just a few follow-up questions:
- I’m assuming other websites are loading much quicker (so it’s not your internet connection). Can you confirm?
- Are you experiencing this slowness in multiple browsers or just one?
- Are you experiencing the same slowness when you try to edit a post using the Dashboard editor or is it just in the Interim Editor?
Whoever thought it up should be shot!
Seems a bit harsh don’t you think? :)
We definitely realize there are some kinks to work out. We’re working as hard as possible to get them all resolved!

“Perhaps we can look at either making previous tags searchable or adding a function where “M” jumps you down to the start of the tags that start with “M” making the feature a bit less painful”.
NO GOOD. I’ve got hundreds of tags that I use frequently. I (and others) need a function where you type in a key word or group of letters to narrow down the search (like “ukra” for “ukrainian”… “music” for “folk music”, etc). That was on the old editor. It should be on the new one. Do make sure that the spelling/grammar function is as robust as on the old editor.
As for speed, if I go to the dashboard, I can load the old editor in seconds (but it’s a pain in the ass). If I use the drop-down under “01varvara” in the upper right (not the “new post” to its immediate left), it takes forever to load and the goofy “message” is a POS! Furthermore, the new editor is poorly laid-out (grouping everything to the right is goofy)… it’s made for Aunt Tillie posting about Fluffy the Cat.
This new “editor” is overly slow for serious posters. I don’t like hitting “edit this” to get a goofball message and a piss-poor editor when I do boot. I’ve posted 10,000+ posts… until now, you guys are great… this, though, is ABYSMAL. Who thought this up?

Hi Barbara,
Regarding the loading time, I’ll need you to answer the following questions if I’m going to be able to help at all:
- I’m assuming other websites are loading much quicker (so it’s not your internet connection). Can you confirm?
- Are you experiencing this slowness in multiple browsers or just one?
I appreciate your feedback here!

Thanks Barbara! We’re taking a closer look at this. For now, you may have noticed we added a banner to the top of the new editor with a link to take you back to the Dashboard editor (“classic mode”). You can use that link to get back to the Dashboard editor while we work out the kinks in the new editor.

Are you saying that we’ll be stuck with the crapola editor after a short period? It lacks many of the features of the older one and it’s poorly-laid out to boot. It’s meant for grandmas who post about their cats!
It’s slower… it has fewer features… it’s badly laid-out and poorly organised… it lacks the robust grammar/spelling editing and tag search features of the old one… what’s not to hate?
I still say… as a frequent poster… this new interface SUCKS. It was slow even after I rebooted and everything else was copacetic. YOu should have the classic editor as an option in the dashboard. That is, those of us who want it, could enable in place of the new one (that is, any new post toggle would lead to the classic, one wouldn’t have to jigger and poke every time that one posted).
Are you trying to make life difficult for serious posters? It sure appears that way!

Hi Barbara!
Are you saying that we’ll be stuck with the crapola editor after a short period?
The goal is to improve the functioning of the new editor to make it just as awesome as the Dashboard editor. We know there are a lot of kinks to work out, and we’re going to address everything we can.
You should have the classic editor as an option in the dashboard.
For now, we have the banner at the top to switch back to classic mode. We’re not planning on adding a “disable” switch to always default to the classic editor. However, you can always just using the following link to go straight to your Dashboard:

Please direct any and all feedback regarding the new editor to this thread:

If you have a specific bug to report or another question not related to the new editor, I’m happy to answer it here. Otherwise, I’ll be closing this thread so we can keep conversation regarding the new editor to one spot!
