Why do all html codes disappear from posts after publication?

WordPress support documents say that some html codes are not allowed on wordpress for security reasons. Well and good. But my problem is none of the html codes I insert remain in a post after it is published and reopened for editing. What is the solution to this problem?

Thank you for the reply.
It appears that it was I who was in error. I was writing in html after a very long time and made a very basic mistake. I just did a test post with the error corrected and it came out fine.
