Why do auomated comments appear whenever I link from one article to another?

I don’t understand this behavior. If I have a number of articles posted in my blog, it seems whenever I add a link within one that leads to the other, the other one gets an automated comment where the name is: “[linking article name] < [blog name]”, and the content is […]some portion of text from the linking article[…]
This is annoying. Why does it happen and how can I stop the behavior?

That’s called a Trackback, and it’s so people can navigate from one post to the other which references it, you included. You can just disable it under Settings, I think the sub-section is Discussion.

OK, I see, thanks. I’m a long-time web developer but (believe it or not) I’m new to blogging and my first blog is getting a lot of attention – so a lot of thse obscure things are new to me. OK, now I sound like an idiot, LOL, I should have figured this out on my own.
