Why do "Home" pages show up on the published site, but not the backend?

I created a “Home” page and it posted fine, but there is another “home” page that shows up on the posted site and so there are “2”. However, only 1 shows up on the “pages” of the “admin”, so I don’t know how to delete the “home” that doesn’t exist.

The “Home” tab you see is hardcoded into the theme. You’ve got a couple of options here:
1) For that theme, you have to have a “Home” tab. If you’re ok with “Home” and “About” merging and being called “Home”, you can combine them with this trick:

2) The other alternative would be to pick one of our newer themes (Twenty Ten, Enterprise, etc) and redesign your menu however you’d like with our custom menu editor:
