Why do I get an Internal Server Error on mobile devices?
-
I have my WordPress.com blog hosted on WordPress. I have a domain that was registered through a 3rd party registrar – FatCow. I have that domain pointed at my WordPress blog. When I go to the domain on a computer, the redirect works fine. When I go to the domain on a mobile device, I get an Internal Server Error in the browser. I can not figure out why. Any assistance would be very much appreciated!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m not seeing any upgrades on your http://buildingbillericasfuture.wordpress.com/ site. What domain are you trying to redirect?

buildingbillericasfuture.com redirects to http://buildingbillericasfuture.wordpress.com/.
It works on desktops, not on mobile devices.
Thanks!

Are you using a redirect at your domain registrar to do this? If so, that is probably the source of the issue. Domain Mapping is the way to do what you are trying to do:

I am using a re-direct from the domain registrar – FatCow. I called them last night and the support agent told me that he could see the the re-direct resolving on his side.
I have done this in the past where I have re-directed a domain from a 3rd party to my WordPress blog without having to pay any additional fee. For example http://www.billericademocrats.com redirects to http://billericademocrats.wordpress.com/ with no issue on all devices. The re-direct for the blog in question IS working for desktops, so the issue isn’t the mapping. For some reason mobile functionality is all that is affected.
Is there something different that happens with re-directs for mobile devices that is causing in Internal Server error?
Thanks!

WordPress.com just isn’t set up to support that sort of redirect. That is why we have the domain mapping system.
In addition, those sorts of redirects are terrible for SEO. Not to mention the fact that nobody can ever get to a specific page on your site because the only URL that is ever displayed is buildingbillericasfuture.com.

Here’s an example of what search engines see when they look at your site (using that sort of domain redirect):
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>Billerica Democratic Town Committee </title> </head> <frameset rows="100%,*" border="0"> <frame src="http://billericademocrats.wordpress.com/" frameborder="0" /> <frame frameborder="0" noresize /> </frameset> <!-- pageok --> <!-- 05 --> <!-- --> </html>That is, they essentially see nothing. This is a pretty significant blow to your site’s ability to generate traffic.

Thank you for your clarification on that.
I have purchased Domain Mapping and followed the instructions – including changing the nameservers with the registrar. Currently, going to http://buildingbillericasfuture.com/ yields a blank screen. Is this normal during the transition? Are there any other settings with the registrar (such as my current re-direct setting) that I need to also change?
Thanks,
