why do i get charged to add existing domain?

    I set up a domain name with someone else so is it going to now cost me a monthly fee with Word Press to use it?

    I don’t think domains are free. To get a custom domain, you need to pay for it. More info here:

    Hi,
    If you have registered a domain name(eg:-mychicnest.com) elsewhere then there is charge of $13 per year for redirecting your site mychicnest.wordpress.com to mychicnest.com.

    If you register the domain (eg:-mychicnest.com) at WordPress.com then the charge is $18 per year which includes $13 for redirection and $5 for the domain registration.

    All these charges are per year and not per month.

    If you own a domain else where(Godaddy,Hover, etc) you can map it to your blog by using domain mapping. Here are the instruction on how to go about it.

    Ok now I paid the $13.00 and successfully added the domain so that traffic would be directed but now when you go to my page a bluehost page shows up? Blue host says to contact WordPress. The message I got yesterday was you have successfully directed traffic to your domain name and this make take a few hours. It’s been more than a few hours. Help!

    The first thing we need to know when posting here is the URL of the domain and the URL of the .wordpress.com your wish to map from to that domain. Please provide the URLs now so we can move forward by confirming you have done the set up correctly.

    In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL.

    If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and as you own that domain already you can see here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

    After doing the set up it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.
