why do I get messages saying "You do not own that identity"?
-
trying to comment on another blog as my wordpress id… which I’ve done multiple times. Today I get an error message that says “You do not own that identity” even though I/m logged in. The blog I’m trying to comment on is on blogspot.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m having this same problem for weeks now and am unable to find help on any forum. I can no longer leave comments on blogspot using my wordpress account. I also get “you do not own that identity”. I’ve also tried “open ID” and gotten the same response. Yes. I’m logged in to my wordpress.com account when this happens.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

The issue was addressed three days ago, here, in a support forum thread: Here are the support forum threads with the tag “You do not own that identity.”

Yes. Thanks. Yes. I’ve searched with this search. That’s how I got here. I’ve already located and read all of these. I’ve done all the wonking about (short of starting a blogger account) suggested in the linked article. I’ve been unable to get open ID or wordpress link to recognize my ID and to work on blogger again.
This sounds like it could be a perpetual and un-solvable problem from the user end of things. Perhaps this is a “line-in-the-sand” drawn to encourage us all to become google-philes (my latest conspiracy theory) but more likely it’s the simply fallout from the social media developer’s religion called “work fast and break it” bragged about locally (San Jose, CA)
I don’t suppose there’s a way to contact the maker-Gods at either end and have it fixed?
Thanks again for taking the time to read and reply. I’ll keep an eye out to see if this gets fixed.
All the best.

I’ve been posting comments to blogger from my wordpress account for almost two years in the exact same way. It recently stopped working and started giving me this error message. It is not something I’m doing wrong or differently.
As of today (for those interested in a work-around), the best I could do was resurrect an ancient and unused blogger account of mine and comment on blogger using it. But, since my empty blogger account doesn’t link back to my wordpress.com blog (my only blog), I’ve had to cut and paste a message into each comment explaining what I’m doing and why and adding my wordpress link. Otherwise they won’t know who I am or how to find me.
It would be nice if there were a fix out there. But I haven’t heard one yet that works. I’ve VERY open to someone who’s found a FIX or DIRECT work-around.
PS: Just a reminder to latecomers to this thread: Open ID also doesn’t work any more using my wordpress.com either.

This issues suddenly occurred to my account as well. I do have a WordPress.com blog and a corresponding username. The problem in my case (and maybe in others as well) seems to be that https://yourblog.wordpress.com is send for verification to the OpenId server. This is what I could figure out from the URL. If you than manually replace https with http it works.
Is this a blogger error? Does blogger send the wrong URL (I entered http on the blog itself in the OpenId field). -

I’m getting the same thing and think it started yesterday. I am logged in to WordPress in a banner at the top and yet I get this “you do not own this identity” message. No idea what to do and the help suggestions are completely opaque to me.

Well perhaps the elves / gnomes / trolls have gotten it fixed. Today it worked. Tomorrow, who knows? I did notice when entering my wordpress ID on the Blogspot “comment as” dropdown, my blog /wordpress user name was truncated. Once I clicked and fixed that, the comment went through with no issues.
