Why do I get so many spam comments?

My blog has recently been getting a lot of spam comments (I’ve gotten over 30 today) and I’m not sure why. The only thing that’s changed recently is that my blog was linked on a couple big sites. Would that create spam comment? Is there anything I can do to stop these from continuing? Why have they started all of a sudden?
None of the comments are posted on my site because I have to approve them before they’re posted. My readers are not seeing the comments, but they’re just annoying me and I can’t figure out why they’re happening. Any insight would be awesome. Thank you!

Yes, getting exposure on a major site will bring spammers. Spammers follow links all over the internet, and this would have exposed you to the spammers working on the big sites. There’s nothing you can do to prevent spammers taking a shot at you, but you can mark their comments as spam and eventually Aksimet will learn and proactively mark them as spam.

I need to know how to delete more than 2000 spam comments that have appeared in the comments for approval. Doing bulk deletes only a few at the time. Thanks
