Hi there,
Can you point me to two posts on the site that are duplicates of one another?
I took a look through your recent posts, and don’t see any duplicates there. I see a large number of posts titled “haiku”, but while the titles are the same, the contents of each post is different, so those aren’t duplicates of one another.

i noticed this by accident but apparently it’s been going on for some time.
if i scroll back just looking at the pictures, i see
bridge (https://joem18b.wordpress.com/2020/07/02/bridge/)
purple flowers (https://joem18b.wordpress.com/2020/07/02/haiku-502/)
street crossing (https://joem18b.wordpress.com/2020/07/01/kitty-corner-katty-corner/)
cliffs (https://joem18b.wordpress.com/2020/06/30/haibun-3/)but sometimes at this point, i come to purple flowers again – same url – and the other pictures it, before continuing back with :
book (https://joem18b.wordpress.com/2020/06/29/haiku-497/)
corner (https://joem18b.wordpress.com/2020/06/29/poem-82/)
lamp in woods (https://joem18b.wordpress.com/2020/06/28/tough-relationship/)and if i then click on “lamp in woods” to display that url, then click to on the blog name “Does Writing Excuse Watching”, I’m returned to the scroll, but the top of the scroll is “Book” with nothing above. but if i click on the blog name again, i’m returned to the scroll that goes all the way up to the present.
sometimes when scrolling down, there is a flash and i’ve jumped down further in the scroll, maybe like past a patch of repeating pictures.

Okay, so this is as you scroll down the front page.
This is a problem with the infinite scroll feature not working properly with your theme, and the cause of that is the age of your theme – the theme on your site was retired already in 2013, so hasn’t been updated since, while the underlying code for the infinite scroll feature has changed a lot since then.
The theme isn’t going to get updated to fix this, so you can check if disabling infinite scroll makes a difference – you can find that option under Settings ->Writing ->Theme enhancements.
If that doesn’t help, the only other option is to switch to one of our current themes instead.

They do it to me, too. Happens all the time. Something is messed up in wordpress. They are trying to discourage using the old editor.
-
i truied the old editor once, yesterday. i guess that’s what did it.
i’ll try changing the scroll setting and if that does work, i’ll change theme. i presume there is a menu item and instructions somewhere on how to do that.
cheers.

not finding Theme Enhancements, to turn off infinite scroll. is there a way to search help?
-
You’ll find it under your settings following this guide: https://wordpress.com/support/infinite-scroll/#disabling-infinite-scroll

Thanks but not helpful. Your same advice as before.
The link you provide has a picture showing Settings under My Sites. i don’t get a Settings option there.
Under Dashboard I get a Settings > Writing option but nothing about Themes there.
Is it possible that with an obsolete theme like mine, these options aren’t available and I can’t turn off infinite scrolling or add a footer widget, in which case my only option would be to change to a new theme?
If so, what is the name of the (simplest, most like my theme) default theme?
Cheers

You’ll find it at https://wordpress.com/settings/writing/joem18b.wordpress.com
If you don’t see it there, would you please provide a screenshot of what you’re seeing via https://snipboard.io/ ?
-
thanks.
turned off infinite scroll. got the footer. it didn’t work. still dupes the posts.
guess i’ll have to switch to a current theme.
can you give me links to easy instructions and the name of the most basic default link?
cheers.

You’ll be able to choose a new theme from https://wordpress.com/themes
The search area will allow you to narrow down your choices.
