Why do I have so many spam comments lately?
-
I have up to 100 spam comments per day now. Why would this be occurring? Will spam ‘visits’ be included in my statistics? Why can’t I access spam directly from the stats page anymore? What can I do to reduce the volume of spam? Many thanks for your help!

Hi there,
Currently, I don’t see any comments in your Spam inbox here:
https://gwenithwhitford.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php
Have you already deleted them? If a lot of the spam comments have a common string of text, I suggest adding that string to your blacklist:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#comment-blacklist
You can use the comment author’s name, IP address, web site, as well as the comment itself. Please make sure the word is not something contained in non-spam comments. For example, if you enter “press” as a blacklisted word, “WordPress” will match.
Also, please mark those comments as spam instead of just deleting. Our Akismet anti-spam engine tries to learn from a pattern of the comments that are marked as spam.
For more information about dealing with unwanted comments, visit:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/unwanted-comments/
With regards to the statistics, spam visits do record a “hit” to your blog on the stats page. However, you can remove unwanted referrers from your stats page following the instructions here:
Finally, you can see the spam comments towards the bottom of your stats page as shown here:
Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Thanks Jeremey. I do clear my spam comments regularly and they are marked as spam. I will start to blacklist some names and see if that helps. Cheers!
