Why do I have to approve my own replies?

    Since very recently, when I reply to a comment on my blog, my reply now shows up as ‘awaiting moderation’. I then have to approve my own reply before it shows. This was never the case before.

    Hi there,

    Hmm, I have seen this once before. This might be happening, because at some point when you commented you clicked the small “Change” link here: http://cl.ly/image/3J050d1Q0P01

    When you clicked that, if you changed any of the information in there (perhaps by accident), the system doesn’t recognize you.

    To fix this, next time you comment, please click change and then click the little WordPress logo, as pictured here: http://cl.ly/image/0Y091t343B0Y

    Then make sure those fields have (1) your same email address that’s listed here: https://en.wordpress.com/settings/account/
    (2) Your user name jumpingfromcliffs
    (3) Your URL http://jumpingfromcliffs.wordpress.com/

    That should reset what’s stored for you when you comment, so that it will recognize you and not hold your own comments for moderation anymore.

    Can you please let me know either way, whether this fixes it or whether it doesn’t? Reason being, I think this issue (that the system doesn’t recognize you if you change any of that information) should have been fixed some time ago, so if it’s recurring, I need to let our developers know. :)

    Thanks for the swift reply.

    I checked all those steps and they’re all correct – email, blog name and URL. I tried re-entering them, just to be sure, but I still had to approve the comment.

    Could the problem be connected to the fact that I changed my primary email address a couple of months ago? The new one shows in my account setting and in the “Change” details, but it may be that something is stuck somewhere?

    Hi Jon – Hmm, that shouldn’t be causing it, but would you mind trying one thing? Please log into http://en.gravatar.com/ and delete that old email address from your Gravatar account. Let me know if that makes any difference.

    If it doesn’t, would you mind if I left a test comment on your blog while logged into your account, so I can take a closer look at what’s happening? I’ll delete it after I leave it.
