Why do I have to pay for my domain mapping now when I didn't before?

    I had my website mapped to wordpress before but I decided to try a new host for mapping and I didn’t care for it so now that I canceled my subscription on the other site I need to rehost my site through wordpress again but now it’s asking me to pay a $13 yearly subscription fee that I never had to pay before. Is there a way around this? Or am I perhaps doing something wrong? I don’t want to have to pay unless I absolutely have to because it used to be free and I only used the new platform for 2 weeks.
