Why do I have to pay to be able to do anything?

    Am I correct in my understanding that I can change basically nothing about a theme — that I have to pay to be able to change fonts, background colors, menu colors…

    Why would anyone ever use this?

    Please explain to me what kind of customization I CAN do.

    Hi there,

    Blogs on WordPress.com are free. However, for upgrades where you are able to change fonts/colors, and edit CSS Custom Design upgrade must be purchased. However, we do provide basic hosting free of charge.

    If you are unhappy with the default fonts/color, you can look into another theme. We have over 200 themes available here:
