Why do I have to pay to be able to put Google Analytics on my website.

  Why does the instance of WordPress I’m working in not have the editor available to me, and have plugins disabled? I should not need to pay $300 a year just to add Google Analytics. I’ve built many a wordpress site in the past, it’s been a while, but I’ve never known a time when I had to pay for an upgrade just to add a FREE Google Service. Please help.

  WordPress.com offers hosting for WordPress sites and is different from WordPress.org. It sounds like you’ve dealt with self-hosted WordPress sites in the past. Here’s an explanation of the difference:
