Why do I keep getting errors when I try to upload media?

Every time I try to upload a picture, it looks as though it’s processing but just as the blue bar gets to the end an error comes up telling me to ‘try again later’. I tried several times yesterday and again today but the problem keeps happening.

Are you uploading images from the post editor at the New Post button here https://wordpress.com/post/ or the post editor in the main dashboard to create posts? Go to your blog’s main dashboard (http://mancultural.wordpress.com/wp-admin/) and create a new post by clicking on Posts ->Add New in the sidebar menu. You’ll find creating posts this way is much more stable and provides many more options for making it look exactly like you want. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/new-post-screen/ Existing posts you can edit by going to Posts ->All Posts and clicking the Edit link under the post title.

Thanks, this hasn’t resolved the problem for me but it’s allowed me to notice something else. The blog I’m having a problem with is one for which I’m a contributor, but don’t own the blog. I have other blogs that I do ‘own’ attached to my account, and when I follow the link you sent to the post editor in my dashboard, I notice that I get a different editor for the blog I’m trying to contribute to (where I have no ‘Add Media’ button and am having the problem uploading images), and my own blogs where I do have an ‘Add media’ button. Has WordPress for some reason decided that you can’t add images to a blog post that you’re contributing to another person’s blog? Cos that seems fairly counter-productive…

The only suggestion I have to offer is to contact the admin of the blog and ask them to confirm what your user role is, for as raincoaster pointed out, certain types of users cannot upload media.
Something else you can try is to upload the image to the media library of one of your own blogs. Then you should be able to add it to a post in the other blog by using the Insert from URL option described in the support doc. To get an image’s URL, go to the media library and click Edit under the relevant image. In the screen that opens look for the image details (usually top-right of the screen). You’ll find the URL in a text field there.

Actually I think raincoaster meant “contributor” not author. This is why:
Author – can write, upload photos to, edit, and publish their own posts.
Contributor – has no publishing or uploading capability, but can write and edit their own posts until they are published. http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
