Why do I keep getting spam registrations?

    They look like this:

    New user registration on your site The Place Master:

    Username: [redacted]

    Email: (email visible only to moderators and staff)

    Should I be concerned?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi
    Akismet has blocked nearly six thousand Spam messages on my blog but every day I get messages for Approval that are so obviously Spam it is ridiculous!
    Today for instance I have five messages, four from someone calling themselves ‘Pussy’, each with different IP addresses, and one from ‘Bill’ at ‘fox.news’… etcetera, all responding to the same Post I put up a few days ago. It is obvious these are not readers as the messages are just junk.

    Does anyone know how this stuff bypasses the filter? Who are these people, if they are people, really? Why do they do it, what do they get out of it?

    You should be able to get help from the WordPress.org support forums.

    @sterlingpound You should realize that the tools being used by spammers are evolving at a greater rate to bypass the spam filters. And the spam filters such as Akismet are also learning how to combat spam effectively. In case, it misses a spam comment, you can help the community by marking the comment as spam so that Akismet can learn from that and update its database.
