Why do I need a ‘Google Workspace Business Starter subscription’

    I use Network Solutions to pay for my domain name & I use WordPress to map this to my website. I use gMail which is mapped to my domain somehow and retrieve them and it all works well. Why do I need the Google business starter? I dont need business services. Thanks!

    Since you’re using a custom email address like (email visible only to moderators and staff) through Gmail, the Google Workspace Business Starter plan is what powers that setup. It provides not only the custom email, but also access to Google’s tools — like video meetings, Gemini AI assistant in Gmail, security management controls — all tied to your domain.

    This is different from email forwarding, which only lets messages be redirected to another inbox. Google Workspace gives you a full inbox and lets you send and receive mail from your domain directly — which sounds like what you’re using now.

    If you’re actively using that address, the subscription is needed to keep it working. That said, if you’re no longer using the email or the other tools, it’s perfeclty reasonable to reassess whether the plan is still needed.

    OK Follow up question: Can I move away from Network Solutions which is where I register my domain? Can I do this through Business Starter?

    This from Network Solutions:
    Domain mapping means you purchased a domain name with Network Solutions and you prefer to keep your domain registered with them. Registered Domain Name with NetSol for 9 years on 11/23/20

    Im asking this because I see that “By purchasing Google Workspace on WordPress.com, we automatically set up your domain so you don’t have to manually configure DNS records.”

    Does that include domain registration? Can I have you all take that over for me? I paid a lot to NetSol for this. Maybe I can get a refund from them?

    I understand you have your domain registered with New Work Solutions. Additionally, you’re using an active Google Workspace subscription to have an email for your domain. As you can see, these are separate subscriptions.
