Why do I need a multiple wordpress accounts to post on other blogs?

    I have a wordpress account, yet everytime I try to post on another blog my account is not accepted and I must register as new account to post? This seems ridiculous. One account gets me all around other blog systems but not here? Am I missing something?

    I think it depends on what blogs you comment on. There is wordpress.com which is this multiuser software and then there is wordpress.org where peopel can download a similar software and host it on their own web host.

    If you comment on any wp.com blog your account, you can use the same account as it’s a global account. Can’t think of a better term.

    If you comment on a selfhosted blog some may ask you to have an account with them to comment. that account only wokrs local on that specific blog.

    Hope that helps.

    Did my answer help you? If not it would help if you post the links to the blogs you mentioned.

    Carocat,
    I think you’re right. Given that everything looks identical I assumed the blogs were wordpress.com blogs. But a little investigation shows they are using the wordpress software, not the blog hosting service. It would be nice if somehow they were differentiated visually, because on the login for these blogs they use the standard wordpress login screen. Very confusing.

    Thanks for your help!

    I always check in the footer. If it’s a .com, then it will say something like “blog at wordpress.com” and if it’s a self-hosted .org blog, it will say something like “powered by wordpress.”

    No worries and as thesacredpath states check the footer. :)

    The visual clues are:
    wordpress.com blogs have a blue navigation bar on top and if you are signed into wordpress.com you will see it;
    also provided you are signed in you on wordpress.com blogs you will be able to see a tiny smiley face somewhere on the blog at the side of the theme or at the bottom signifying stats are being collected; and
    there is the footer as thesacredpath decribed “powered by wordpress” in the footer indicates a wordpress.org blog and not a wordpress.com blog.

    I agree with the poster who suggested that the logins be differentiated. It would be FAR less confusing. Same design, different colour; easy.

    Hopefully, that party will send in their request to staff and the logic of creating a visual difference bewteen wordpress.com and wordpress.org dashboards and blogs will shine through the darkness. But, I’m not holding my breath even though the wordpress.org tag is the largest tag in the wordpress.com forum.
