Why do I need extra credits to host a WP blog on my own domain?
-
I decided to get my own domain and hosting at http://www.cluelessinamerica.com. When i tried to move my blog (http://cluelessinamerika.wordpress.com) to this new domain, it asked me for 10 more credits. Why do i need 10 more credits for this domain mapping?

Don’t pay the credits, that is for domain mapping, which is not what you need. Since you have your own hosting and I assume your own installation of wordpress on your host, what you need to do is go to manage > export and export your blog from here. That will take all your posts, pages, comments, categories and tags and create an xml file that you can then import into your new blog (on the dashboard of the new blog, manage > import).
You will have to import your links separately as they are not exported with the XML file above. See this thread: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=17419&replies=2

The 10 credits is for people who want to “tie” their present wordpress.COM blog to their own domain name. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/10/domain-mapping/
Having your own domain name doesn’t necessarily mean you have website hosting. But, if you do have your own website hosting and a stand-alone wordpress.ORG install on your website, then you don’t have to pay 10 credits for domain mapping. Just export your blog via your Dashboard’s Manage> Export function and import the resulting file via your wp install on your hosted domain.
