Why do I need to supply my domain name before using a template to create a demo site?
-
Why is a domain name required before I can experiment with the templates to demo a web site? I don’t want to have to choose between transferring my domain or linking my domain just so I can experiment with the templates. What is the best way to avoid this?

Hi there,
That shouldn’t be the case- what you could do is create a site with a free WordPress.com blog address. You are assigned a
.wordpress.comor a.home.blogsubdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site and determine whether or not this is the platform you want to use. Once you are done developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over:https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
map an existing domain:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Or even creating a new one:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/
Hope this helps – let me know if you do not see the option to create the free site.
Thanks,
