Why do I see my Hostinger paid domain and the wordpress.com version?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi – I purchased a domain on Hostinger and thought I successfully connected Hostinger to my WordPress site (dreamdifferentlivefree.com), however I am now seeing both dreamdifferentlivefree.com and dreamdifferentlivefree.wordpress.com. I have cleared my cache and refreshed pages but both sites still exist. What is happening here and how can I fix it?

    Hi there,

You registered dreamdifferentlivefree.com with Hostinger and its still hosted on Hostinger. You created WordPress website on your Hostinger hosting that is using the WordPress software from WordPress.org. I assume that is the connection you refer to , please provide more details if I’m getting it wrong

and thought I successfully connected Hostinger to my WordPress site

‘So that site is live and is what we would call a self hosted site, meaning you are using a hosting provider of choice, in this case, Hostinger to host your site and using the WordPress,.org software .

You are currently on the WordPress.com forum, and your site dreamdifferentlivefree.wordpress.com is a free site that is hosted here on WordPress.com. WordPress.com is what we would consider the opposite of self hosting in that WordPress.com is a managed host platform that offers WordPress in a pre-customized server environment already set up for you to build your site.

You can refer to this guide to understand the difference between the two ,

Definitely not TMI! I read every article and I think I know what happened. I mistakenly thought I was connecting a Hostinger domain to my WordPress site but created another site instead. Thank you so much for this helpful reply!

Now, I would like to transfer my domain to my WordPress site but it’s not allowing it yet, so I’m working on connecting them and will transfer later. However, WordPress says I need to upgrade to a plan to connect – will the personal plan work for this? It keeps trying to add Premium to my cart so I want to make sure the cheapest/most basic Personal plan will work. WordPress is more expensive but the backend seems way less technical than the Hostinger site I’m currently working in! Thanks again!

    Hi dreamdifferentlivefree ,

Yes, you do need a plan in-order to connect your domain and the personal plan should be able to support the domain connection.

Try using this link to upgrade and pay for the personal plan.

I totally agree.WordPress.org self hosting is for the very technically savvy and advanced, and there are some day when you just want things to work, minus the complexity.
