Why do images disappear from my posts?

  Images which I have posted a few weeks ago disappear from the posts. When readers click on the text which comes up in their place, they get the message ‘file unavailable’ or something similar. Why is this happening and what can I do about it?

  Hi!

  I found an example of this here:

  mayhem in the kitchen

  It looks like the missing images are pointing to a 404 -File Not Found error message:

  

  This generally means the file was deleted from your site. It looks like several files were deleted two weeks ago. Did you happen to delete any images?

  Thanks for replying.
  I did delete images from the media library.
  I didn’t realise the images would disappear from the post. I don’t have a logical mind (to say the least).

  So off I put the images back in the media library, they should reappear in th posts, I guess.

  See below:

  Ah – yes, if you delete the images from your Media Library, they will be removed from your posts on WordPress.com.

  So off I put the images back in the media library, they should reappear in th posts, I guess.

  Unfortunately, it’s going to likely require a bit more work than that. The issue here is the file URL will not be the same. Every image you upload has a file URL like this:

  https://mydeafandblinddog.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/18-12-14-isis-chucks-food-stand-in-the-air-001-e1418944836314.jpg

  Even if you upload the exact same file, we’ll append a -2 to the end like this:

  https://mydeafandblinddog.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/18-12-14-isis-chucks-food-stand-in-the-air-001-e1418944836314-2.jpg

  This means that the source URL within the post won’t find the right image.

  You’ll need to edit each post separately and re-add the images. I’m sorry there isn’t an easier way!

  Never mind! The most important thing is that I can get my imaged back
  – and, hopefully, not erase them again.
