Why do my embedded soundcloud links suddenly show the wrong version of the player?
-
I’ve had my site live for a week or so and the embedded soundcloud links were fine up until yesterday when I visited my site. They were suddenly the wrong version of the soundcloud player where it shows the large image instead of the smaller thumbnail. I’ve re-copied and pasted the correct wordpress code from soundcloud numerous times now to try and fix it but it still shows the wrong player every time I update my site. Is there a reason why this has suddenly changed and won’t let me embed the right player?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there!
Did the look of your player change for previous posts it was embedded in, or just recent ones? We recently made some changes to the Soundcloud shortcode, which I believe could be causing the change you’re seeing. If you could give me an example of an older post where you’d inserted the player, then I can confirm this with you.

Hi,
yes it has changed for every soundcloud player that I have on my site. If you look at my very first post on my news section then you will see that it is the same as all the other embedded payers. I’d provide a link to the post but I’ve just noticed that my url doesn’t seem to change when I visit a page or post after the landing page. This is another issue that I’ll need to address too
Thanks

Hi there.
If you look at my very first post on my news section then you will see that it is the same as all the other embedded payers.
Could you take a look at our documentation for the SoundCloud shortcode and let me if one of the embeds there matches up to what you’re after? The documentation can be found here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/soundcloud-audio-player/#manual-customization
That guide also gives some pointers on how to customise the shortcode to your liking. If you let me know if one of the embeds featured looks how you’d like yours to look, I’d be happy to help further.
I’d provide a link to the post but I’ve just noticed that my url doesn’t seem to change when I visit a page or post after the landing page.
I’m unable to replicate this error. Here’s an example of a URL I was taken to after clicking through to one of your posts:
My hunch is that a browser is causing you to not see the full URL for your posts and pages. Could you try opening another browser, such as Google Chrome, to see if you can replicate there? Let me know how that goes.

The second option is the one I’m after but it should display a small thumbnail and the track next to it but for some reason it displays a full image behind the track. Also, I have a playlist in my sidebar as a widget but again this displays the first embed option where I want it to display a small thumbnail at the top of the playlist and the track list below. I’m not sure why it was all fine a few days ago and it has all suddenly changed throughout my site.
With regards to my URL, the link you have clicked is my wordpress url but I have pointed my own domain to my website which is what I am using now. But it is just showing my domain name http://www.simonfinley.net on every page and no extra info such as http://www.simonfinley.net/news/

Hi there!

Some changes to that shortcode were rolled out a couple of days ago to fix a bug that was causing the player to not embed at all in some users’ posts. It was this change that caused the difference in the look of your embeds. This can be solved though! :)
You’ll need to add &show_artwork=true&visual=false to the list of params in your shortcodes to get the embeds to look as you described. Here’s an example of how one of your shortcodes will look with the added params:
[soundcloud url="https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/201394102" params="color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_artwork=true&visual=false" width="100%" iframe="true" /]Also, I have a playlist in my sidebar as a widget but again this displays the first embed option where I want it to display a small thumbnail at the top of the playlist and the track list below.
This can be changed using the added params that I described above.
With regards to my URL, the link you have clicked is my wordpress url but I have pointed my own domain to my website which is what I am using now. But it is just showing my domain name http://www.simonfinley.net on every page and no extra info such as http://www.simonfinley.net/news/
Hm, I’m seeing the free, default domain, simonfinleymusic.wordpress.com, on my end. Could you please update the primary domain on your site? This can be done via the My Domains page:
https://wordpress.com/my-domains
From here, check the box next to simonfinley.net and then ‘Update Primary Domain.’ When this is done, simonfinley.net will be the default address for your site, which visitors will always be redirect to.
I also noticed that the name servers for simonfinley.net aren’t pointing towards WordPress.com. Can I ask how you completed mapping for that domain? Our recommendation is to change the name servers, through the company your registered the domain with, to the following:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM NS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COMIf you can let me know how you went about mapping simonfinley.net to us, I’ll be able to check to see if something there is causing the issue you mentioned.

I was told by one.com who I bought my domain off that I just had to point my domain to my wordpress site by just inputing the wordpress url into a page on my dns settings and click save. That’s all. When I did it my personal domain was linked to my site after about an hour. However, I’ve just tried what you have advised by updating my primary domain in my wordpress dashboard and now when I type my domain into my browser it comes up with a blank white page

The domain’s name servers also need to be updated in order to complete the mapping. You can find our complete guide on that here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
I checked with one.com and, in order to change your domain’s name servers through them, you’ll need to fill out form and send the following form along to (email visible only to moderators and staff):
Click to access request-to-change-name-servers.pdf
The second ‘IP’ field can be left blank in the above form, with the following values for the name servers required in the first field:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM NS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COMHope that helps!
