why do my latest posts not come up at the top of my blog page

  • Unknown's avatar

I am having to ‘stick’ my posts to make them appear at the top of my blog page, as my newest posts. This is new, they used just to automatically appear at the top. Now my latest post is appearing about two or three posts down the page, even though it is ‘sticky’. I don’t know what to do.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Have you removed the “sticky” setting from the posts that are appearing above your new sticky post? If not, you can do that, and the latest sticky post will move to the top.

Give this a try, and let me know how it works out for you.

If you still need help on it, please do give me specifics, like the URLs/names of the posts that you want moved. What should be on the top, what is on the top instead, etc.

    The more details, the merrier!
Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you but I have been detained on other things. Thank you very much for the ‘sticky’ hint: by removing all the ‘sticky’ labels and doing so before publishing the newest post, it does now show at the top of the page.
However, I am not sure why this needs to be done at all, since in all the years I have been blogging with WordPress I have never had to use a sticky at all. Can you shed any light on this?
Also, there other indiosycracies with the chronological order of other posts. For example, Postcard from Paris 17 is showing as published on 13th April and is out of sinc with the others: in fact it was published between April 28th and May 3rd! Is this some arcane effect of using and then un-using the sticky button?
I am finding this very confusing:) thanks for your help.

    Hey there!

I’m wondering if the newer issues arose because your theme — MistyLook — has been retired, and a new theme called Misty Lake has been offered in its place. You’ve probably seen that message in your dashboard when you’ve logged in.

If you’d like, you can update your theme, to see if you like it. If not, you can always revert to the retired version.

You can check that out here:
    https://sweffling.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?s=misty-lake

The benefit of updating your theme is that when WordPress.com updates its software, the developer of the theme will make sure it works well with the new WordPress.com version. Retired themes are not updated in this manner.

Also, there other indiosycracies with the chronological order of other posts. For example, Postcard from Paris 17 is showing as published on 13th April and is out of sinc with the others: in fact it was published between April 28th and May 3rd! Is this some arcane effect of using and then un-using the sticky button?

You can make an adjustment to your post’s publish date here:
    https://sweffling.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=9039&action=edit

In the right hand column, you’ll see this:
    https://cloudup.com/c5omb7DFLfu

Click the EDIT where you see Published On (April 13), and change the date as you need. Then, click Update.

You can do the same thing with any other issues that arise such as these.

Did you copy a post, by any chance, to create this new one? If so, I’m wondering if that is the reason the date is “off” on this one.

Thanks again — let me know if this works out for you — and if you need anything else at all!

Thank you very much for these hints and tips: I’m away from home at the moment but when back I will try these out and let you know how I get on:)
