Why do my posts get deleted after I post them?

  • Unknown's avatar

After I make a post, the site congratulates me on making a new post, and then when I click to go back to my home page, the post has been deleted, or only appears as a saved draft in my posts folder on the dashboard. This happens pretty consistently – Usually I need to post a single post multiple times before it seems to stick and show up permanently – there seems to be no rhyme or reason to this, but I’ve noticed it seems worse when there are photos in the post. Not sure what to do about this, maybe you’ve got some advice for me – thanks

    Hi there!

Can you clarify what you mean by this:

then when I click to go back to my home page

Are you clicking the header/site title on your site to go to the home page, or are you clicking your browser’s back button? Clicking the back button is not the right way to do this as it can potentially undo the publishing act and revert back to a draft status.

Can you let me know exactly the steps you’re taking when you publish a new post and where things go wrong for you? Once I have that information, I’ll be happy to take a closer look.

Let me know if you have any questions.

hey, thanks for the reply – after I’ve published a new post, i don’t click the back button, but I often click the title of my page in the top left corner that takes me to the front page of my blog. After the post is published it appears on the screen for reading, but when I click to move onto the home page, or for example if I were to type in my blog into the web browser, viewfromaburrow.com and reload the page, the post fails to appear, and for some reason is back in my post folder saved as a draft.

The steps I take are as follows- I click new post, write the post, add media, save the draft and then click publish. After I click publish the screen that says congratulations you’ve now published x number of posts appears, along with the new post. After this appears I click the title page of my blog, often by clicking the “View From a burrow” that appears in the top left corner of the browser. When I get back to the home page, often the post fails to appear, or sometimes it appears and then disappears the next time I click a post or reload the page. So in many cases all will go smoothly, the post will appear as it should, and then within a minute or so, if I try and click the post again, or reload the page, the new post is gone, and only retrievable as a saved draft.

hope this makes things more clear, thanks for your time and help

    Hi there,

Thanks for the additional information. :) When you save the draft, do you let the post editor reload before you click publish? Or do you click publish right away? It’s possible that, even though you click publish, the process of saving the post as a draft is still going and so it reverts to a draft post.

Can you try saving the draft, letting the post editor page reload completely, and then clicking publish? If it still reverts to a saved draft, please leave it as a draft and then let us know so we can take a look at it in your dashboard.
