Why do my stats keep Changing?

My stats keep changing, one minute it’s one number and the next it decreases.

Our stats are not real time stats and take time to update. There are frequent fluctuations in the ups and downs being rectified that most do not notice because we aren’t watching the process. You need to be specific and post details so Staff know exactly which up and down stats you are referring to when they get to this thread. You can post screenshots and share them with Staff. You can use http://snag.gy/ to share screenshots. Or you can use the WordPress.com guide I linked to and upload it to your Media Library, and return to this thread to provide the file name so Staff can examine it.

Might have something to do with cache issues – WordPress.COM is hosted on three massive server farms – separated by some distance for reliability – so they might not all three be synched up all the time – at the end of the day the stats should even out
Also – what is the difference 5 page views dropped or a 50% drop?
It could also be related to Akismet sorting out spam vs/ real visitors. So far this year my site has over 200,000 spam comments, each of which if counted would inflate my stats by a very large number (over 50,000 spam last month alone)

I did notice yesterday that my stats did bounce up and down a bit in a short time frame (10 seconds to 5 minutes) – total window of about 12 page views – part of the day

My stats will appear normal, then when I click on to reader or dashboard, and then click back the number will decrease. Then it will increase a minute later. Hope this information is helpful.

had a bit of bouncing yesterday I think – but normally I don’t check the stats often enough to see the bouncing – on the 10 I reloaded the stats page a few extra times & also compared it to the App on my Android phone – seems the stats were a bit strange and I just chalked it up to cache issues between your server farms & had the blind faith that the numbers would all even out at midnight

I’d say my stats have been bouncing up and down like Auxclass, that’s the best way to describe it.

I’m having the same problem, just as described above. It’s been going on for a couple of days – but my stats have been pinging up and down this evening in particular. Not by many views, but it makes it difficult to get an accurate picture.

It looks to me that my stats are going back and forth in time, as the hourly hits indicator sometimes displays the 91 hits from last hour and sometimes it does not. It’s a big spike, so it’s pretty obvious when it’s not there.
Additionally, sometimes the bar graph on the stats page shows up and sometimes it does not.
I think this is related to the Flash issues going around lately. Hopefully the latest bundle of Adobe updates will fix it.

I am having the same problem it is with the number of views, you refresh and think the total views for the day is one thing, and then refresh again and the number has gone down, it just doesn’t seem to want to make up its mind,
How can the number go down? -
Real stats cannot go down. Reported stats can, when there’s a glitch as there clearly is.

I’ve had the exact same problem others have specified. It started only a couple of days ago, which is why I wondered if it might be a glitch on the wordpress end.
