Why do people want a webhost?

I dont understand why peole would sign up for a webhost. What sort of things can you do with a webhost that you can’t do using just wordpress?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

With a self-hosted blog you can modify the wordpress files if you need to, and add new themes or plugins and you can advertise. With a self-hosted blog you can also add javascript, flash, forms and ifreames etc You cannot do any of those things here at wordpress.COM.

In short, you have complete control, but you also have all the responsibilities that come along with it. You have to do all installations and upgrades, you have to do all backups, and you have to do all troubleshooting and fix things when they go wrong.

There is always advantage using your own host and domain coz you have full control on it.
