Why do posts with link to my older posts send comment pingbacks to my e-mail?
-
When I publish a post with my link to an older and related post of mine I get a pingback comment to my e-mail address. What am I supposed to do with it? I’ve been deleting them but it’s a pain. Can I stop this from happening? Also, yesterday’s post with the link was full of hundreds of AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA’s in between all the words of the post. The A’s have a little circle on top them. What’s causing that and what can I do to stop it? It happened once before too.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, Pingbacks are there to let you know that someone has linked to a post on your site. You can turn off pingbacks under Settings > Discussion:
https://kqduane.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.php
Just uncheck the box that says “Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks).”
Also, yesterday’s post with the link was full of hundreds of AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA’s in between all the words of the post. The A’s have a little circle on top them. What’s causing that and what can I do to stop it?
Would you mind posting a link to the post where you see this so I can take a look? Thanks!

Sorry for delay. This is URL from bottom of post with al the AAAAAA’s. I hope it works.
Thanks for ping back info. I’m new to WordPress. I’m assuming if I shut it off that it stops all notifications? Why would I want to know if someone linked to my post?
Thanks again for your help.

Why would I want to know if someone linked to my post?
It’s a way to find out who’s mentioned your posts on the web, and perhaps add a comment on the other person’s site if you like. Some bloggers like to be aware of who’s mentioned their posts.

Thanks for sending along the link. I’m not seeing any strange characters there, are you still seeing that or did they go away? If you’re still seeing them, would you mind doing two things:
1) Would it be possible to upload a screenshot to help in troubleshooting? Here’s a guide on how to make a screenshot, if you’re not sure. You can upload the screenshot in your Media Library and then post a link so I can see it.
2) Could you please try a different browser, such as Chrome or Firefox, and let me know if you see the problem there?
Thanks very much.
