Why do some of my posts marked as sticky only show as featured posts?

    I have 10 posts. 9 are marked sticky, so I should have a grid of 9 sticky posts at the top and one main feature post below the grid, but I have 6 sticky posts and 4 featured posts all one below the other, the newest at the bottom.

    How do I get the 3 posts marked as sticky to show in the grid of stickies so that there is just 1 featured post?
